Hi all,
Praise God, Praise God, Praise God. We have a most unusual situation!
We need to move close to 20,000 pounds of lettuce in the next few days before it goes bad. If you can help us in this effort let us know.
On Friday we will be meeting at our warehouse located at 11701 S Crain Hwy, Cheltenham, MD 20623 at 9:30 a.m. to get the lettuce out to anyone who can use it in their food program. Give us a hand so we can get the lettuce out to you, too.
We plan on gleaning at Miller Farm on Thursday, April 3, and Saturday, April 5 at 8:30 am. We will be harvesting Collard and Kale. Miller Farms is located at: 10200 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735.
We need your prayers. We are also looking for someone who can head up our intercessory prayer efforts.
GOD is currently showing us favor and we would like to see this continue!
Blessings,
Garrett L Hutsko
Director of Operations
Hi All
Over the last 8 weeks we have had from 140,000 and 160,000 pounds of Sweet Potatoes to feed people in the Washington DC and Baltimore areas. We still have 22 bins at about 1100 pounds each. We will be gleaning them on Tuesday March 25 at 8:30 a.m.
On Thursday the 27th and Saturday the 29th we will be going into the field to harvest Greens. We will be meeting at Miller Farms in Clinton, MD at 8:30 AM. Miller Farms is located at 10200 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735.
Make sure you check out our voice message line at (703) 370-0155 for the most up to date information available. My hope is that those in the area will be able to get involved with us at a future glean.
We are feeding many people with the food we glean and are hoping you will get involved with us. We are in need of volunteers of all kinds both at gleans, in our warehouse, and in our office. We are also in need of financial support. We can feed people with the produce we get for as little as 10 to 15 cents per pound. As always we need prayer and lots of it.
Blessings,
Garrett
Here’s a story by Dr. J. Larry Brown of the Harvard School of Public Health in the Central Maine Morning Sentinel that explains why MAGNET – and organizations like it – continue to need your help in battling hunger. While we don’t believe that all of his proposals are workable (”The charitable hunger sector will announce publicly that it intends to go out of business within the next four years”) we do agree that more can – and should – be done at the Federal level to end hunger.
The Mid-Atlantic Gleaning Network (MAGNET) is an independent charitable nonprofit organization authorized by the IRS to receive tax deductible gifts and donations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Your gifts and donations are appreciated and very much needed, since all charitable work requires resources. MAGNET has also been known as the Washington Area Gleaning Network (WAGN). Donation checks may be made out to either WAGN or MAGNET and sent to our mailing address: P.O. Box 9871, Alexandria, VA 22304.

Hi There
I have been in Nashville for the last week or so, as a result I have not been able to send out opportunities to you. However, in the last 4 weeks we have had 80,000 pounds of Sweet Potatoes, which have been sorted and used to feed people across Washington DC and Baltimore. With the help of organizations such as DC Central Kitchen, and Arlington Food Assistance Center including Food Banks and Food pantries, churches and other community organizations we have been able to feed a lot of people. On March 10 we received another 40,000 pounds of sweet potatoes and were able to feed more people with your help. We are planning future gleanings as the season prepares to get into full swing.
Make sure you check out our voice message line for the most up to date information available. That number is +1 (703) 370-0155
My hope is that this blog will be of value to those who read it and that our readers will be able to get involved with us at a future gleaning event. We are feeding many people with the food we glean and are praying for people to get involved with us. We are in need of volunteers of all kinds, not just at gleaning events. We can use your help in our warehouse, in our office, and if you have a CDL, driving produce trucks. We are also in need of financial support. We can feed people with the produce we get for as little as 10 to 15 cents per pound. And as always we need prayer and lots of it.

Poverty – and hunger – have been around for millennia, but this issue was important to the people of God as far back as Leviticus 23:22 which states,
And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the LORD your God.
What we would like to keep central in the development of this blog is the constant need for prayer as a means of spiritual support for the philanthropic efforts of this organization in fighting hunger. No endeavor to assist with the needs of others can effectively get done without prayer. Corrie Ten Boom wrote, “Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden.”
In the first section of this blog, we will bring you updates on the efforts of the organization to fight hunger, and how effective those efforts are.
A second section of this blog will be postings of prayer requests on behalf of this organization and others in need of God to intervene in their life. We will provide a place for prayer requests to be posted so that the public can read them and volunteer to pray for specific needs.
A third section of this blog will be postings of answered prayer requests which we feel would be a great encouragement for the ministry and those that support it. As Oswald Chambers wrote, “Worship and intercession must go together, the one is impossible without the other. Intercession means that we rouse ourselves up to get the mind of Christ about the one for whom we pray.”
Blessings.
